Situation

Carouge was nicknamed the Sardinian city at the time of the treaty of Turin in 1754, when the territory was ceded to the Kingdom of Sardinia by the Republic of Geneva. Under the will of King Victor-Amédée III of Sardinia, the hamlet was erected as a town by Piedmontese architects who gave it its character. In 1786, the King granted it the title of royal town. The municipality was united to Geneva since the treaty of Turin in 1816.

Over the decades, Carouge has become a very popular and sought after area of the city of Geneva thanks to its lively atmosphere, its many restaurants and bars, its stores, its theater, its schools and its immediate proximity to downtown Geneva.
